Grant Provider

The grant is offered by the Global Ecosystem-based Adaptation (EbA) Fund, which supports innovative and catalytic initiatives that help scale up Ecosystem-based Adaptation approaches to climate change. Grant Objective

The main objective of the 8th Small-Size Grant Call is to support projects that address systemic barriers to scaling Ecosystem-based Adaptation. Projects should improve institutional and technical capacities, strengthen data and evidence generation, build learning networks, support policy uptake, and improve readiness for larger climate-finance investments.

The call particularly encourages proposals in areas such as:

Climate change adaptation and resilience
Nature-based solutions and ecosystem restoration

Investment readiness and preparation of scalable project pipelines
Innovative technologies for Ecosystem-based Adaptation
Applied and functional research
Data and evidence generation
Knowledge-sharing and learning networks

Geographic Focus

The primary geographic focus of this call is on ODA-eligible Small Island Developing States (SIDS) and Least Developed Countries (LDCs).

However, proposals from other ODA-eligible countries may also be considered where they demonstrate exceptional ambition and a strong opportunity to scale Ecosystem-based Adaptation. This means organisations from India may potentially apply where the proposed project strongly meets the Fund’s criteria and demonstrates substantial scaling potential.

Eligibility

Eligible applicants include:

NGOs and International NGOs
Community-Based Organisations
Indigenous Peoples’ Organisations
Universities and academic institutions
Research institutes and think tanks
Private-sector companies under specified conditions
Intergovernmental organisations
Consortia of eligible organisations

Applicants and relevant partners must be legally recognised entities. Projects are also expected to partner with local institutions and organisations. Government bodies may participate in a consortium, but the Global EbA Fund does not directly grant or sub-grant funding to government entities.

Grant Amount

Each selected Small-Size Grant can receive funding of up to:

US$250,000 per project.

Project Duration

Projects can have a maximum implementation period of:

Up to 24 months.

Important Project Requirements

Projects must clearly qualify as Ecosystem-based Adaptation and should identify the specific climate risks or hazards they seek to address.

Proposals should also demonstrate:

Innovative and catalytic potential
A clear climate-adaptation impact chain
Benefits for both people and ecosystems
Gender and social inclusion
Local community participation
Environmental and social safeguards
Long-term sustainability
Potential for replication or scaling
Links with national or global climate policies
Strong local partnerships

Importantly, the proposed project must be built on or based on existing work rather than being an entirely new standalone concept.

Evaluation Criteria

Applications will be assessed broadly on four major areas:

Ecosystem-based Adaptation and Project Approach – 30%

Innovative and Catalytic Contribution – 30%

Sustainability – 20%

Institutional Arrangements and Organisational Capacity – 20%

Applicants are also expected to include gender and social inclusion, a sound Theory of Change, SMART indicators, an appropriate budget, and a clear implementation methodology.

Relevance for India

For Indian NGOs and development organisations, this grant can be particularly relevant for projects related to climate-resilient agriculture, watershed management, forest and landscape restoration, wetland conservation, mangrove restoration, drought resilience, tribal and rural livelihoods, biodiversity, ecosystem restoration, and community-based climate adaptation.

Indian proposals are likely to be more competitive when they demonstrate an innovative model capable of replication at larger scale and a clear connection with national climate, biodiversity, or development frameworks.
